Despite its high speed and exceptional image quality, its dimensions are astoundingly compact. Furthermore, with its eleven blade iris, this new generation lens creates a circular aperture, lending out of focus areas an extremely smooth look and feel. Images are pin-sharp with rich contrast, and almost completely free from distortion with superb bokeh at all apertures and distances and even when shooting wide open.

This retro edition lens is modelled on a screw mount lens produced at the Leitz factory in Wetzlar from 1955 to 1963. Leica APO-Summicron-M 35 f/2 ASPH.
The ten lens elements are divided into five groups; three elements feature aspherical surfaces (one of them on both sides). Six elements are made of glasses with anomalous partial dispersion, which not only reduce chromatic aberrations to almost zero, but also provide apochromatic correction ?a quality that is rarely found in lenses of this focal length.

While the exterior design is carefully adapted to complement the contemporary lenses of the M System, the optical design

of the original lens design remains unchanged

The Macro-Elmar-M 90 mm f/4 can be used as a compact 90 mm telephoto lens or, in combination with the Leica Macro-Adapter-M, for macro shots up to a magnification of 1:2. Either way, the lens provides an incredibly high imaging performance.

Without the adapter, the Leica Macro-Elmar-M 90 mm f/4 is an extremely versatile telephoto lens ? for example, for portraits with shallow depth of field and in travel photography for capturing details in landscapes. For reportage photography, the Leica Macro-Elmar-M 90 mm f/4 allows photographers to capture discreet shots at a greater distance from the subjects. The Leica Macro-Elmar-M 90 mm f/4 is a compact and lightweight alternative to existing Leica M-Lenses of this focal length.
